Program Goals & Objectives



The Yuba College Veterinary Technology Program is devoted to providing the student with the education needed to enable immediate employability of graduates at an entry level, meeting the high demand for veterinary technicians in today‚Äôs workplace.


Program Learning Outcomes:

Upon completion of the Associate Degree in Veterinary Technology the student will be able to:

  • Demonstrate competence in the husbandry, restraint and handling of animals, their normal and abnormal life processes, medical and surgical nursing, anesthesiology, diagnostic imaging, and clinical laboratory procedures.

  • Communicate professionally via verbal, written and electronic media in interactions with the public, clients and colleagues, to include effective listening.

  • Employ quantitative reasoning skills in veterinary technology.

  • Apply critical thinking skills when problem solving in veterinary technology.

  • Exhibit competence in the cognitive and psychomotor skills of veterinary technology.

  • Demonstrate technical proficiency all AVMA essential skills for the entry-level veterinary technician in compliance with federal, state and local laws.

  • Apply rules of occupational health and safety in educational and work place settings.

  • Articulate the relationship between veterinary medicine and public health and safety.

  • Display behavior consistent with veterinary medical ethics to foster professional growth and career development.
